Innovative technologies for water conservation and efficient use and management of water resources will be financed through the planned “Green Transition Fund of Agriculture”

The latest version of the “Sustainable Agriculture” section of the National Plan for Reconstruction and Sustainability (NPWD) proposes a project for the rehabilitation of hydro-repairing infrastructure sites.

That said Deputy Agriculture Minister Georgi Sabev during a video conference with representatives of industry associations in the sector.

This was prompted by the presentation of current information on the proposed projects in the field of agriculture, proposed for financing by the Mechanism for Reconstruction and Sustainability.

“The indicative value of this project is BGN 150 million, which will restore 24 sites for irrigation and 43 sites for protection against the harmful effects of water,” said Deputy Minister Sabev.

He added that the sites were selected based on feedback from industry and the European Commission.

They also meet the criteria for the worst technical condition, the greatest water loss and do not fall into protected areas within the meaning of the Protected Areas Act, nor in Natura 2000 areas.

The Deputy Minister also pointed out the possible direction for investment under the “Fund to promote the technological and environmental transition of agriculture” project.

Among the activities that may be eligible for funding are:

  • equipment/facilities for applying innovative technologies for water conservation and efficient use and management of water resources (including water storage facilities – tanks, reservoirs – automated irrigation systems, etc.);
  • investments in mobile slaughterhouses;
  • automation and robotization of the individual phases of the production processes (for plant cultivation – in irrigation, fertilization, crop protection, climate management, prevention of adverse weather conditions, etc.;
  • for livestock farming – introduction of mechanized feeding, milking, watering and cleaning systems, livestock management and monitoring systems, including beekeeping, manure management systems, electric herders, GPS systems for permanent pasture identification, drones, etc.) and others.
